Carmen Electra's Shy Side

Carmen Electra looked great in that red bathing suit on Baywatch and didn’t mind revealing what was underneath in Playboy . And she hasn’t exactly kept herself under wraps as a sexy regular in comedies from wacky spoofers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who’ve been lampooning Hollywood ever since their hit Scary Movie .
Now Carmen is having a little fun at Angelina Jolie’s expense in Disaster Movie .

Q: I’m guessing you didn’t get Angelina Jolie’s permission to do a send-up of her recent performance in Wanted .
A: Not exactly, but it wasn’t personal, and if she sees it I hope she has a sense of humour.
Q: Apparently, you just can’t say no to Jason and Aaron.
A: I really get a kick out of their spoofs. For me, it’s a chance to show people that I have a sense of humor and don’t take myself too seriously. A lot of times I was the class clown in school. I've always been that way. If you can't make fun of yourself, if you take yourself too seriously, then you spend your life worrying all the time.
Q: You and Kim Kardashian do a serious knock-down drag-out parody of some of the WWE divas. Had you met before you started trashing each other?
A: I’d met Kim, but I really got to know her in our wrestling scene. There’s hair pulling and I hurt my back and got some burn marks. But it’s also sexy. We’re sort of playing with the idea that guys get turned on by girls wrestling. We get into some down and dirty positions, so it’s a good thing we became friends. Kim is so cool, not to mention being hot.
Q: Speaking of hot, that’s certainly the way people see you. Do you love it?
A: I've sort of created that image, but it’s definitely a part of who I am. One of the big misconceptions about me is that I walk around in mini-skirts and high heels twenty-four seven and go to the gym in heels. When people see me dressed normally, they can't believe it. It's really weird. But if I didn’t have a sexy side, I wouldn't have done Playboy and I wouldn't have done Baywatch and a lot of other things.
Q: Are you feeling confident as an actress, even when you’re pulling Kim’s hair?
A: I’m sitting there going, 'Oh, my God. I suck right now. Or should I say it like this? How should I say it? I said that wrong.' You have all these things going on in your head. You have to build up your confidence and let go of that so you can just be in the moment.
Q: What’s the strangest film you’ve done so far?
A: I did a film in Italy, Vacanze di Natale , which means 'Christmas Vacation .' It's not in English so they dubbed my lines into Italian. But it was great. I think I was the one person on the set spoke English, so I didn't have to like talk to anybody. I was just in my own little world and I had a great time by myself.
Q: You grew up as Tara Patrick before you became Carmen Electra. What do you have in common with the kid growing up near Cincinnati?
A: Tara is more shy. Tara is more easily intimidated. She's that side of me that was afraid of rejection, that was afraid to take a chance, and step up and have someone say, 'No, you don't get the role.' I do still have that side of me—that soft, sensitive side—and I think that Carmen is the more aggressive part of me. There are moments when I am so that little girl from Cincinnati, Ohio, and I cry and I'm just like everybody else. You know, I have all the same feelings that everyone else has.
