LYNNE SPEARS, 54, had been mysteriously snubbed by Britney for seven months after the star’s first spell in rehab.
The drugged-up singer, 26, was filmed being taken to a psychiatric ward from her Hollywood home on a stretcher in January, Lynne said: “When I saw her in the ambulance, her beautiful brown eyes pained and haunted, something inside me broke.”
She then knew that getting help for Britney was a “life and death situation”.
She added: “To see my child like this – at the lowest ebb of her life – almost killed me. I was overcome with a feeling of sadness and helplessness.”
Depression
Lynne said she had been “to hell and back” watching Britney shave her head, lose custody of her kids and taken away on a stretcher.
Lynne told of her heartbreak over Britney refusing to speak to her for so long in a new book.
She describes the singer’s heartbreak over her alcoholic dad, her bitter split with superstar JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, her doomed marriage to KEVIN FEDERLINE and her battle with him over their two sons.
She said the combination of events led the star spiral-ling into depression.
In an exclusive first look at Through The Storm – A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, Lynne said the first sign of real trouble was when Britney shaved off her hair last year.
Again, she watched the crack-up on TV. She said: “It was so shocking, so disturbing to see that girl with such despondency in her eyes – it broke my heart in a million pieces.”
Lynne, who had shared a close relationship with Britney as she shot to fame, said she was heartbroken to find her daughter had shut her out.
Britney refused to speak to Lynne after she went into rehab last year – and even accused her of sleeping with her ex-husband Federline.
Lynne said: “Britney would lash out at me, accusing me of siding with Kevin and letting him have the boys.” Lynne added that when Britney left the rehab “her anger at me had not cooled”.
Telling all … Lynne’s book
She said: “In fact, she refused to speak to me, and our estrangement lasted an excruciating seven months.”
Terrified
The relationship thawed so they did meet and terrified Lynne told of her horror at the influence manager SAM LUTFI was having on Britney.
She said: “Britney was so agitated she couldn’t stop moving. She cleaned the house, changed her clothes many times.
“We talked, but it was as if she wasn’t there. She spoke in the tone and understanding of a little girl.”
After Britney was committed to a psychiatric ward for a second time in January, Lynne and husband JAMIE became convinced it was “a life or death situation”.
But Lynne said the move actually saved Britney’s life – because she persuaded doctors to keep Lutfi away.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE SPLIT
BRITNEY SPEARS was left “scarred” for years by her split from singer JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, the troubled singers mum claims.
LYNNE SPEARS said she believes the pain may have been the root of the star’s problems — making her jump from one relationship to another.
In her book, Lynne blames Britney’s erratic behaviour, including her shock Vegas wedding to JASON ALEXANDER, on her “wounded” girl’s heartache over Justin, 27.
She claimed the teenage sweethearts were “too similar, butting their strong wills together too often”.
Lynne said: “I wish they would have parted differently, rather than to hurt each other and leave all those scars.” Lynne also told how the “reckless and irresponsible” marriage with Jason Alexander was a rebound.
Lynne said: “Almost two years after she and Justin had broken up, Britney was still wounded.
“She started to act out of pain . . . in an effort to numb her disappointment and heartache.”
The union was annulled less than three days later, but Lynne recalled her shock at her daughter taking up with dancer KEVIN FEDERLINE within months.
She said: “I wasn’t crazy about the fact that he was already a daddy and his ex-girlfriend was eight months pregnant with their second child.”
Lynn even begged Britney, 26, not to have children soon after wedding Federline — but the star quickly fell pregnant with son SEAN PRESTON while second kid JAYDEN JAMES was unplanned.
Lynne also told how her daughter suffered from post-natal depression, saying: “It added to her broken spirit over the end to her marriage to Kevin.”
And claims Britney was a bad mother after nearly dropping Sean “brought her to breaking point”, Lynne said.
Sam Lutfi
BRITNEY Spears was drugged and virtually imprisoned in her home by her “cruel” ex-manager, her mum claimed.
Lynne Spears said “predator” Sam Lutfi fed her daughter sedatives and antipsychotic pills – by grinding them up and slipping them into the star’s food and drink.
She wrote in her book: “He said that was the reason she had been quiet for three days. She had been drugged.”
He said doctors needed her to be in a sleep-induced coma to get other medication.
Lynne said Lutfi preyed on vulnerable Britney by promising her he would help her get her kids back after she lost custody.
She also claimed he told the singer: “Take the pills.
You should do what I tell you to see your babies”.
Lynne added: “She was sad, floundering, ripe for a predator to come along. Britney was open to this man who rode in on a white horse.”
Afraid
Lynn went on to say how Lutfi claimed Britney would kill herself if he left, and threatened: “If you try to get rid of me, she’ll be dead and I’ll p*** on her grave.”
Lynne said she was afraid of Lutfi’s “cruelty, hostility and lies”.
She claimed he disabled Britney’s cars to stop her leaving the house and hid her phone to cut her off from family and friends.
She said: “Within a month of meeting, Sam was in complete control of her life. He appointed himself as her gatekeeper, and there was no one he wanted to keep the gate closed to more than Britney’s family.”
Even Britney’s lover – Brit snapper Adnan Ghalib – was in Lutfi’s way.
The jealous manager reduced Britney to tears, telling her she “cared more about her boyfriend than her children” and she didn’t deserve to have the kids.
